Artist Statement for Raul Rincon

|
Raul Rincon is a Toronto based Colombian photographer with a distinctive taste for flare and contradiction. He has a knack for transforming the way that fashion and commercial photography is captured.
Raul’s work bends the rules of fashion and commercial photography to create work that questions traditional frames. He is after all a storyteller, and his photography moves us towards the reframing and transforming of the ordinary: objects are not contained by traditional settings, and movement is continually captured and transformed.
He invites the viewer to question conventional beauty standards, and the formation of the ordinary. His images keep the observer away from visual fatigue by demanding from the viewer more than just a passive mode of seeing. His photography is successful because it diligently presents the constant surprise of things seen for the very first time.
What you’ll find most outstanding about Raul’s work is that he is not afraid to delicately break any rules in order to communicate a story. His images capture an emotion; embrace the different faces of light, transform traditional settings, and most importantly they linger in your minds.
