| Biggest Artistic Inspiration |
I continue to learn from and be strongly inspired by the painters and photographers of the artist's colony on Monhegan Island, Maine, USA, since the 1980s trough today. |

| Why Did You Become An Artist |
I found that through photography I could capture both reality and beauty. Art provides me with another way, another medium for communication. I am still startled by the strength of some of the images I am able to capture. Also, by the emotion an image can evoke. |

| Your Personal Biography |
My formal education and training include a BA cum laude in English Literature and an Masters in Clinical Social Work.
My art education and training came piece meal, informally and mostly self-taught. It continues through art and photography books, museum and gallery visits and participating in critiques of my work.
I always played at art. My happiest childhood memories are of early mornings spent drawing, painting, making doll clothes or creating small paper cities in box covers.
I have a some formal training in drawing, painting and pastel, but my interest in art blossomed when---using a borrowed camera--- I started to take photographs in a serious way, back in the early '80s.
My artistic pursuits have been strongly inspired and influenced by the artists colony on remote Monhegan Island, 10 miles off the coast of Maine. Since 1980, I have spent at least part of every summer there. I was exposed to a variety of artistic styles and ideas. I was able to listen to artists talk shop, watch classes and sit-in on critiques. When I finally shyly showed some of my own work, these same artists were very encouraging. I am especially grateful to Robin Young, Frances Kornbluth, Nancy Stanich, Josie Vargas and Leo Brooks.
Since the early '90s, I have shown my work on Monhegan Island in the summers and in the NY/NJ metro area year-round. I have shown work at the Mid Day Gallery, Englewood, NJ; Art at Imago, Hoboken, NJ, and at Madame Claude's in Jersey City. I support various causes with donations of my work for auction and sale. I am pleased that my photographs are in private and corporate collections all over the country, and that I have many repeat buyers.
Until recently, I used film exclusively, but over the last few years I have made the switch to digital, and am surprisingly happy with the change. Still, I take continued pride in capturing an image just as it was in reality; therefore I do not enhance or 'photoshop' my work.
Since 2008, I have been entering photography contests when I have the time. So far, I have achieved 'finalist' status in 3 contests.
I strive to create striking images that touch the viewer emotionally. I try to convey the essence of my subject, so that the viewer has an immediate 'yes!' response. I depend upon simplicity, line, shape and contrast, as well as my own emotion.
I like to show my work personally face-to-face, but since that is impossible over the internet, your questions and comments are especially appreciated.
Thanks for taking a look. Enjoy!
