Artist Statement:
After seven years of creating pieces with pebbles, broken crockery, ceramic tile and stained glass, I continue to be intrigued with the virtually unlimited range of creative possibilities inherent in mosaics. While I may start a work with an idea of what I want to achieve, the unique visual and tactile qualities of the individual pieces often take me in a completely different direction and the work begins to take on a life of its own. Equally important is the choice of grout and its color as these dramatically affect the look of a piece.
The Labyrinth table is a scale replica of the meditation maze in the floor of Chartres Cathedral in France. The glass outlining the pathways changes color depending upon the light. The pathways are created in blue as it is the most calming color and thus suitable for meditation - the color of constancy and faith - the color of the heavens and the oceans.
The Purity and Love table tells a traditional love story from courtship to parenthood as depicted in 12 porcelain plaques by Danish artist Bjorn Wiinblad embedded in pique assiette and American art glass. The pique assiette backgrounds for the 12 plaques represent the ...
