Artist Statement:
An exploration into the inherent poignancy of failing/changing physicality; imagery that resonates with our own vulnerabilities and inescapable degeneration, our subservience to lifespan.
These paintings are informed by natural process, explorations of geography, physicality, cause and effect. As part of an open expanse of potential meanings, these paintings aim to work within a set of limitations and to create a sense of restriction, compression, weight. Their intent is to create space and surface that snags, tangles and holds the viewer.
My aim is to create an emotional sense of space and place, where time ravages, wind blows, seas swell, places are found, days dwindle, moments are present then past.
Denudation – the wearing away or progressive lowering of the Earths surface by various natural agencies that include weathering, erosion, mass wasting and transportation.
Ablation – all processes by which snow or ice is lost from a glacier, floating ice, or snow cover, including melting, evaporation, wind erosion and calving.
