Artist Statement:
Painting is much like being
born, as if for the very first
time, it is the energy essence
that lives and luminesces
within everything. A
miraculous visual dance that
can be felt and understood, a
subtle magical force that is
born of trusting my intuition
enough to act upon it. My hope
is for the viewer to feel
deeply my paintings.
Out of a world with infinite
possibilities and shades, I
attempt to isolate a singular
element that defines the first
impression of a scene, simply
and without extra or competing
elements. This happens best
when I am drawn to key
compositional elements or
witness exciting color schemes
in the natural world.
The harmonies in natural
landscape run parallel the
landscapes of mind and spirit,
from which I must be sensitive
to and respond with painting
that comes from a place of
stillness and attention. In
the eye of the hurricane there
is such stillness. The artist
must access that same point of
stillness and create from
there.
