Artist Statement:
My artistic oil paintings try to capture the moods and shades of woman, their dreams and desires, their intellect and their inner feelings. The dream like hues, the forms and the layers all combined seamlessly to infuse the feeling of being in a semi-trance, between reality and dream as if journeying into the inner unexplored world of woman’s inner psyche, : My work explores my multicultural experiences, while growing up in India.
The image of Indian woman as commonly featured is that of, a beautiful woman with chiseled features, a fulsome body and fair complexion- evoking feelings of sensuality and eternal love. Her other avatars (incarnations) as conjured up in a range of artistic expression include- a gentle and nurturing mother figure or the ever suffering and tortured woman in the hands of an unfair society or as a forceful and furious Goddess - Durga or Kali in rare moments of crisis.I am working towards the internal empowerment of women. I am trying to peep into their dreams and desires, their real life stories and experiences those are a part of our society and exist all around us,as we women symbolize the potent and mysterious power of creation...
