Artist Statement:
….the door speak thousand things. I have spent the better part of my life digging out the forgotten secrets of doors and revealing them to the world through my magic paint brush. In a few deft stokes I outline my life and times.
As a young under-graduate from Kumbakonam, I used to pass an argraharam (dwellings of Brahmins) every day on my way to college. There were many old houses and each had an unique door. I was overwhelmed when the light of the rising sun and soft rays of the setting sun reflected on the doors and bringing out their serene beauty which is present in all their individual depth which enhances with the Villaku madums (sacred place for lamps) with oil stains, the manjal, Kumkumam (tumeric paste with red kumkum) markings on the carvings in the Nilai (Wooden frame) and the Tulasi Madum (basil plant) with an Agal villaku (mud lamp). I began searching the depth of their beauty with the sunlight playing on them by reproducing them with the strokes of my brush.
My principal, Mr. Bhaskaran and my lecture in painting Mr. Manoharan, both appreciated and encouraged my work. I also started collecting doors from...
