Artist Statement:
Santo Bencivenni (1976) was born in Bloomfield, New Jersey. He received his bachelor’s degree in 1998 from The Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland and continued his graphic arts education at The School of Visual Arts in New York City. Before becoming a full time artist he spent the last 3 years in New York working for the Promotions Department of the Cartoon Network.
Santo, who is a self taught painter, is inspired by the works of Francisco Leger, Picasso, and the early works of Jackson Pollock. He paints in mostly oils and is known for his strong use of color, distinctive figures, and unique design. Santo’s images evoke emotion and thought that challenge the viewer to explore his or her own sense of creativity and reason.
Santo currently lives in the lower eastside of Manhattan and keeps a studio in West Orange, New Jersey.My works are symbols of my imagination in which anyone can interpret and assimilate in one’s own way. Not everything in life has to be comprehensible, rational, explicable, or logical.
