Artist Statement.
My work process is to try to read people on a deeper level and have some understanding, if I
can from their inner beings, so I can capture it in their personality within my drawings and paintings
their portraits. I work primarily with charcoal and oil but, charcoal is my favorite dry medium, since it's
fast and easy to recognize the deeper being of my models through dark and light. I begin with usual,
sketch and have the form as precise as I can, then start with the dark form, place the darks first, cast
shadow, core shadow, then to mid tone, then to my transitional tones and finally comes the highlights.
The entire process is based on how the drawing comes through, it can go either way, low key or high
key. I try to plan it from the very beginning, sometimes it takes a different direction then it was planted.
My fascination with portraits came to me at an early age, with, my adventure when I left my
home country only speaking languages from that part of the world. I soon developed ways of reading
