Artist Statement for Richard Chavez

|
Many years of life have past. Many dry times of the soul. Songs have faded from my lips. The many styles of my sojourning seem to have run together.
Today, all of the creative flows and the stagnant productions, have come into fruitions with what I now call MY ART!
Still, the canvas sings to me before my eyes. No color nor stroke of brush begins without the canvas beaconing my soul to paint what is on the whiteness of it’s virgin face!
When I was Four years of age, I asked my mother to draw me a house! She drew a stick house on a pad of legal size and line yellow paper with a pencil.
I looked at her completed picture. I said, ”That’s not a house!"
She torn the page out of the pad of yellow legal paper and placed the pencil in my hand saying to me, “Here! From now on draw your Own House!”
Up until these present days, I have been painting the manying stones which one day will build my House.
