Artist Statement:
Biography of Sherry Baumann (Sweet Briar)
I knew I had no artistic talent as I was growing up, because I was told by the people I respected most that I'd never be an artist. I was raised on various Thoroughbred horse farms in several states by my grandparents. I think I worshiped my grandfather, he introduced me to horses when I was three months old. He was a wonderful man, but his idea of art was very limited and did not allow for the wildly imaginative shapes and colors that escaped from my mind and flung themselves upon the pages before me. So, I disowned my artistic self, until for some unknown reason,in late December of 1998, this unacknowleged force started to express itself through the medium of painting.
I have finally reached a time in my life when I realize that my creatively conceptual style of painting is acceptable. Two quotes from Picasso express the way that I feel about my artwork, the first is, "The artist is a receptacle for emotions that come from all over the place: from the sky, from the earth, from a scrap of paper, from a passing shape, from a spider'...
