Artist Statement for Pamela Witzke
|
|
|
Pamela Witzke, known as the artist SCARLET, was not an artist early on in life.
Having had a successful career and education, then forced to give them up due to extenuating health circumstances, Pamela did not find the medium of Art until later on in life. Extreme Digital Imagery, which is her art form, is a relatively new concept, having been developed only since 1998. The concept is using Digital Imagery and creating images that visually can be considered "outside of the box". Inotherwords, irrational in nature, not conforming to any standards of harmony or balance, giving the presentation of what one doesn't expect in rational, logical terms yet using subjects/objects that are. Visually the art should be clear and concise, no blurs blips or blobs yet leaving a question-mark like impression on the viewer. It is very close to Surreal art. So far the art form itself has been limited to the Internet in nature/source.
"Although learning art later rather than since school, I feel as though this was an attribute rather than a negative thing because, by then, I had learned alot about life, people and other ways in which to use my mind. By the time I started doing Extreme Imagery my sense of who I was had matured and the ability to be more in touch with who I am was securely in place, allowing me the capability to concentrate completely on my energies put into my craft. It also afforded me the freedom to express myself without reproach or fear of condemnation, not needing acceptance rather than to be able to uninhibitably explore the full reign of reaching for "over the top" creatively, which is a huge asset in the kind of art that I do. With all of this in place I soon found that once I learned the skill to be able to complete my Imagery my sense of being in touch with myself gave me confidence to spill over into political statements, philosophical messaging and putting either an obvious or obscure exclamation point besides just producing the matte. Later, when I realized how important and essential my art had become integrated into my "real" life as a buoyancy mechanism in which to cope, I decided that others who might have been in the predicament that I was, disabled and left with few choices but the power button in which to escape and "Become", presented me with the awareness to teach others. I am proud to say that it has been a rewarding experience, having had countless thank you's from people who, before they were also introduced into an option of how to start their life over again due to things happening to them and feeling "stuck", were at least free to also feel "alive" again.
Art is a stimulus albeit a harmless one that can be a lifeline, a lever for identity and as wonderful yet simple as being able to cope with that one day at a time in a splendid, articulate and self-fulfilling manner.
Pamela is also a Website Designer and Technical Analyst for Software, constantly educating herself on the countless languages and specificities in which to create, program and troubleshoot Websites and Webpages.
Her and her associate James Davis, with whom she shares a Website Design partnership, have been teamed up for years, having designed and built all of her more than 30 Websites plus Websites, Webpages and art galleries for others.
FUTURE
For the past several years, Pamela has wanted to take her art "offline" and transfer chosen Extreme Digital Images onto canvas. However, due to lack of funding/grants along with more health problems she has temporarily not been able to do this yet. At the present time, she is still seeking financial supportive resources to help her reach her goals.
She plans on calling her first show
"Virtual Meets Reality"
a unique concept in the history of all Art Movements
