Artist Statement:
There are those times in life
when what I experience and see
is so special, so close to
"god" or "spirit" or whatever
term works for you here, that
to share it with another is
the ultimate realization of
interconnection. When I click
the shutter, I am sharing that
moment with the camera and
with all the others who will
witness my work latter on. I
photograph as a form of
prayer, following the camera
and following the unfolding of
events in front of me,
listening for communication of
the divine.
I generally photograph when I
am backpacking or taking an
outing to study a specific
environment. At these times, I
photograph as a meditation,
following the camera and
following the unfolding of
events in front of me, staying
in the present moment. My
understanding of the
environment is always
informing my investigations,
leading me to ask questions
with the camera, and to use
the photograph to tell a
story, to express a sense of
place. While my photographs
are about a sense of place,
they are also a projection of
that place through me. In a
sense they are emotional
landscapes. As a meditation, I
