Artist Statement:
"Nearly everyday I am confronted by an internal struggle- a tension in my human experience between my intellect and my emotions: a wildness coming through all of the pretty and big words in competition with and also in collaboration with a sophisticated presentation. An internal struggle, sometimes feeling that of mammoth proportions. This duality of my experience leads to a split- one part of me wants to paint a pretty picture, while the other wants to paint from the gut, the pain, the massive build-up of emotions. Never sated, never satisfied.
As an artist, an opportunity exists to mould these two experiences together in one cohesive statement, both the primitive feelings, and the advanced intellect. This task alone is daunting, blending primitive and modern verses structured and grounded in contemporary theory. Materials present their limits. Paper too thin, canvas is not enough, wax, clay, board, emotion, size. It all matters, and none of it matters at all."
