Artist Statement:
I always try to create a piece of art which gets a positive reaction from the audience. By positive, I mean in the way the person feels; refreshed, energized, alive, thinking quicker than before they looked at my piece. For me, a positive reaction is not simply “any reaction!“ A...

Business man Vaults into art world, by capitalizing on the skills he developed on Bay Street.
Scott Gregory Wilson traded in his 12 year Bay Street career to follow dream of becoming Professional Artist, but uses skills developed in business world, such as; organization; creative marketing, sales, networking and customer relations on an everyday basis to promote his art.
On August 5, 2002, his efforts will culminate into his first major show of Abstract paintings to be held at the Wagner Rosenbaum Gallery, 169 King Street E, Toronto, 7pm to 10pm 416-777-9617.
For many years Scott worked at various jobs in and around Bay Street, including; the Canadian Chamber of Commerce and Langstaff Equities, but he was always a wolf in sheep’s clothing, or an artist in a business suit. When he sold his business in the
telecommunications industry last year he decided to follow a dream and become a professional artist.
He knew there would be sales involved, but quickly realized that being a professional artist is just like owning a small business, and your paintings are the product. Everyday Scott dreams up creative ways to promote his art, making strategic alliances with galleries which fit his sales strategy and daily utilizes many of the skills developed on Bay Street. Cold calling, researching clients and galleries, creating databases are all things which did not enter his mind while dreaming of becoming a professional artist, but are things which have become daily routine and essential to his transition and success.
Scott says,” I believe more everyday that any background in business would be a definite asset when trying to become a professional artist. Creating a proper portfolio, researching and contacting galleries, putting on a show all utilize business methods,
specifically networking and organizational skills. All galleries want organized artists because, like any other industry or profession, it makes everybody’s life more enjoyable, less stressful.
In many ways my work on Bay Street prepared me for the stresses and the positive possibilities of being a professional Artist, but I am ready and excited. I also believe a Scott Gregory Wilson original would look great on some of the boardroom walls and foyers on Bay Street, another potential segment”
Scott always strives for his paintings to be energizing for the viewer. He paints from a positive mind space and that is reflected on his large, colorful, heavily textured acrylic abstract paintings, and specializes in commissioned work. On August 5, 2002, his efforts will culminate into his first major show of Abstract paintings to be held at the Wagner Rosenbaum Gallery, 169 King Street E, Toronto, 7pm to 10pm, 416-777-9617.
Artist will be in attendance, everyone is welcome. Show runs from Aug 5 – Sept 1, 2002.
