Artist Statement for Scott G. Wilson

I always try to create a piece of art which gets a positive reaction from the audience. By positive, I mean in the way the person feels; refreshed, energized, alive, thinking quicker than before they looked at my piece. For me, a positive reaction is not simply any reaction! A positive reaction means the viewer saw something which I created, and it evoked an intense feeling for them. My pieces, generally, would not be considered calming. I strive for my work to be energizing, to encourage thought, and to look appealing on the wall. I personally love many different types of art, but I want my art to be appropriate to be on any wall, from above the living room couch, to a boardroom wall in a downtown office.
Painting has been one of my burning passions for over 12 years, but in the last 3 years I have concentrated on developing my own distinct style. Before that, the business world has been my focus for over 10 years. I have owned my own business, and have been in offices and boardrooms all around the world. I have seen the pyramids of Egypt on horseback, at 4:00am. I was in Amman, Jordan during the 40 days of darkness when King Hussein died. Paris, Portugal, Spain, Bermuda and Jamaica have also made a lasting impression on my creative viewpoint. After selling my business in the telecommunications industry last year, I allowed myself to do some deep soul searching and realized that following the creative lightning bolt which always burned bright inside me, would be the only way to become what I was destined to, an artist.
Over the years, I have had discussions with many artists who find inspiration in a low, dark place in their souls. For them, creating beautiful art was to sink to those low places and come back up with vivid emotions put to canvas, a reflection of their dark feelings, fears, emotions. My inspiration comes from a different place. I seek inspiration at the other end of the spectrum. I try to create images from a very positive place. I reach into my soul and explore the positive, happy, invigorating aspects of myself, other people, places and life around me. There is room for all types of art in the world. I choose to concentrate on the positive aspects of life, and how art has the power to make us feel a certain way, and I want my art to make people feel good about themselves, about life.
I often incorporate both glass and metal in my art as an interpretive element, and to add texture to my pieces. Although I have never taken an art class, I have been studying the art, science, and symbolism of color and how it affects human response in an attempt to incorporate some science into my pieces.
When it comes down to it, art lovers find all kinds of positive interpretations in my pieces, and that gives me a feeling of great satisfaction. If you are interested in discussing how my art can find a place in your house, office or boardroom please contact me anytime, it would be my pleasure to speak with you.
