Qualité, beauté, originalité
Le symbole est son concept dans la réalisation de son œuvre, l'image de l'être se traduit en un masque de bronze s'étirant par des mains libératrices de la vision sur le monde ou une paire de ciseaux se transpose en une paire ...

Artist Statement for Susan Dorothea White
|
|
|
My creativity is driven by what I feel passionate about, namely human rights issues, my family, art, music, and the environment. I also draw inspiration from personal experiences, as in my painting "Me after Brain Surgery", and collage/painting "Menopausal Me in a Saucepan Lid, Warts 'n All, with Everything Including the Kitchen Sink".
I source ideas from language, particularly idioms, as in the bronze "Stretching the Imagination". The mixed media sculptures "It Cuts Both Ways" and "Next-Door Neighbours" are about equality and balance.
Narrative, fantasy, and wit are integral elements in my art - drawing is its foundation and my sketchbook is always at hand. Painting, sculpture, printmaking, and drawing are my basic mediums.
I challenge conventional aesthetics with innovative composition and novel perspective. Fugal compositions with repeated subject are a common theme, as in "The Absence of the Prodigal Daughter" and "The Blind Woman of Annandale".
I question accepted beliefs and ideals by reversing them: "The First Supper", after Leonardo's Last Supper, replaces the similarly featured men with an international group of women. "The Seven Deadly Sins of Modern Times" (painting, print) reverses the traditional sins: celibacy replaces lust, workaholism sloth, etc. The perspective is based on concentric circles.
