Artist Statement:
Welcome to Lexi Klein's Art Theatre. Lexi's interests as a painter are dialogues on contemporary social, political, environmental, sexual and other issues. His work expresses the human drama of contemporary life.
His observations of new challenges to the eternal human condition continuously motivate his creativity.
Ironically, to tackle contemporary issues, Lexi reaches into the past, basing his early paintings on Japanese Ukiyo-e or woodblock prints. His newest work has taken another direction, melding Japanese print, painting traditions and photography with western aesthetics, and computer technologies, inspired by religious and aesthetic themes from the Renaissance which he updates as if continuing a cross-epoch conversation.
Lexi has painted about many issues from censorship to air and water pollution, toxic shock syndrome, American culture invading the world, international tourism and culture clash to current series on todays revolutionary mass media and internet culture (often as seen through the eyes of an up-to-date Adam and Eve). His works are marked by humor, an exquisite sensuality of line, form and color, astute commentary, topicality, and a high level of aesthetics.
