Artist Statement:
Sara Kahu Delamere, nee TePohe
I was born in Napier, New Zealand in 1973.
The youngest of four I had a quiet upbringing in rural Hawkes Bay.
Later we moved to another farm in the Manawatu where I attended
High School until 1988.
Now I am married with 3 children, living in Brisbane ,Australia.
I am a self taught painter and have painted as a hobby for many years.
In New Zealand I used home made ceramic dough to sculpt pieces and
found clay to be easily accessed here in Brisbane.I had one term of tuition in the basics of clay building.
January 2006 has seen me flying back to NZ to put work in a gallery there and at the moment I am working towards another exquisite exhibition in the Gold Coast in April.
NGATAPUWAI- means footsteps or footprints.
I use this as my signature because it encompasses my philosophy on art.
The footfalls of ancestors long past, myth and legend, the Maori Culture, all cultures,my heritage... there have been many footsteps taken from past to present day that have created a rich history full of acts of heroism, recordings of beautiful stories, people who have lived....
