Artist Statement:
I design blown glass art vessels, sinks, chandeliers and lighted hanging glass art pieces. Mostly, my inspiration comes from the beauty of simple, classic forms, color combinations and the spontaneous fluidity within nature. I love to study other artists, art forms and architectural designs. And, in the end, I rely on my intuition to guide my artistic direction.
Since 1980, I have incorporated my education in the design, marketing and communication industries; twelve of those years I owned a graphic design agency in which packaging and branding was focused. Knowing that my passion and life experiences needed a more free-flowing and creative outlet, I turned to glass for solace. I studied all forms of glass at Pratt Fine Arts Center in Seattle from 1992 Ð 1998. I served on the Board of DirectorÕs at Pratt for four years, and taught glass blowing and technique at the school. In August of 2001, I made the commitment to focus my career solely on glass. And, in 2003, I co-founded a company called Functional Art Gallery selling artisan-crafted architectural and functional art work; concentrating on Sinks, Lighting and Furniture.

| Your Personal Biography |
Suzanne Guttman designs and creates blown glass functional art lighting and sinks as well as aesthetic art vessels and sculptural work. Her inspiration comes from the beauty of simple, classic forms, color combinations and the spontaneous fluidity found in nature.
Born in Sacramento, California, Suzanne continues a family tradition of artists, her mother an accomplished fine artist, her grandfather a photographer and her aunt and uncle in the performing arts. She graduated from California State University, Chico in 1981 with a BA in Visual Communications and a BA in Marketing. After graduating, she moved to Seattle and now resides just north of Seattle on majestic Whidbey Island with her husband and business partner, Jack Healy. Working for over 20 years in the communications, marketing and design industry, SuzanneÕs career took many paths, 12 of those years were spent owning her own graphic design firm.
In 1992, Suzanne turned to glass for creative self-expression and has since launched her passion into a new life. She originally studied at Pratt Fine Arts Center in Seattle, served on the Board of Directors and taught at the school. Suzanne currently works with designers as well as produces her line of line of lighting, sinks and vessels that strive for the balance between grace and strength and are simplistic; yet capture motion and depth through color and form.
SuzanneÕs lighting, sinks and aesthetic work are in residences, yachts, motor coaches, airplanes, corporate environments and hotels throughout the world. |
