Artist Statement:
Born January 29, 1940 in San
Diego California, I grew up a
profound stutterer and likable
antagonist. By 16 years I was
obsessed with drawing the
figure and portrait. Largely
self-taught, I developed my
draughtsmanship early. I’m
more inclined toward form than
to surface. I had my first
‘crush at 13 years, and I have
only gotten worse. A happy
woman is a sexy one. I’m
compelled towards the entire
figurative portrait, themes
that go directly toward the
erotic. This has not made my
life or art easier! Typically
I’ll employ a watercolor wash
– more to state form and
character – than to paint. My
line is as in a conversation,
not always proper, but seldom
erring. I have the weakness of
preferring to work from life,
as in life, not posing the
model. Just the ambiance –
fun and conversation is
important. I did some time at
the old Chouinard Art
Institute in 1957, and where
ever I could find a live
model. Stemming from early
attitudinal factors, I’ve
never organized with-in the
art scene. Never chronicled my
sales or showings – but
starting with 1973 my work
found it’s way into private
collection and ...
