Artist Statement:
The physical energy of spontaneous mark-making intrigues me. The development and execution of these works are gesturally instinctive and the resulting forms are not preconceived. During the process, spatial balance is explored to give the elements in my drawing, space to take natural form, to move, and to breathe.
These works are executed with mixed media consisting of coloured inks, charcoal, oil sticks and acrylic paints on 50cm by 60cm-sized papers. I have chosen paper for its ‘ready-to-use’ quality as it compliments my spontaneous painting process. My drawings are abstract. My works dominantly feature bold black lines, juxtaposed with casual coloured compositions.
My constant inspirations are Robert Motherwell, Toko Shinoda, Franz Kline and Jackson Pollock....
