I chose to follow my muse rather than “security” after watching my parents, through no fault of their own, loose everything they had worked extremely hard for. I realized the only real possession that could never be taken from me was my creative gifts. Over the past 40 years I have been singularly focussed on my art and the desire to create something the artworld has never seen before. I believe I have achieved this now as I have to date, invented many techniques in reclaimed cold worked glass. The most interesting one actually allows me to bend glass without heat…the ultimate sculptors medium. This process allows me to create pieces “hot” glass artists cannot achieve as I am not limited by scale or temperature. I have many visions yet to create. Which I hope I can accomplish in this lifetime. |

| Your Personal Biography |
Rick L. Silas: Artist, Inventor and patent holder on Cold Bent Glass & Shattered Laminated Glass Technologies. Rick L. Silas has been a working artist for the last twenty five years in Canada. After five years of formal art studies, in Montreal and Calgary, he abandoned traditional mediums in favor of contemporary materials. In an effort to support himself while developing this new art form, he approached large corporations such as glass and plastic suppliers to take his work in trade for their materials. Silas’ canvas became tempered plate glass, his paints the latest in liquid polymers and spray enamels. Twenty-five plus years of experimentation and thousands of pieces of successfully executed art and commercial installations has proven him to be a master of this dynamic medium.
