Artist Statement:
Gus was born in Austria but
grew up and was educated in
England. After many years as a
civil engineer, he finally
decided to pursue his real
calling - to be an artist.
This was in 1991.
Although he was a hobby artist
all his life, the art of
painting on silk was the most
challenging. Handpainted silk,
Art to wear & Art to frame, is
now his profession. Completely
self-taught, his art is now
being worn and displayed all
over the world.
Specialising in the French
Serti technique, he uses
fiber-reactive dyes, steam-set
for brilliance and permanency
as well as solvent based
resist, called Gutta. The art
of silk painting has been
brought to new hights by the
use of lightboxes, i.e.
backlit silk paintings in
special frames.
Gus now lives in the fabulous
Florida Keys, where year-round
sunshine and the ocean inspire
his vibrant works. Anyone who
has seen one of his colorful
lightboxes leaves with a
lasting impression....
