Artist Statement:
“By photographing subjects
from extremely close quarters
or an unusual angle, common
objects are transformed into a
(semi-)abstract whole of
forms, colors and structures
that centre on mood, feeling
and emotion. The resulting
alienated effect is further
enhanced by creating large
prints of the images, often
using alternative materials...

Artist Reviews:
Review Floral Abstractions I

We appreciate the impact these
prints have and we could only
imagine the effect at their
actual size, which is quite
large, and must certainly be
even more impressive.

The extreme closeups have an
honesty and directness with no
tricks or filters or attempts
to make ...

Why Did You Become An Artist not provided

Your Personal Biography After graduating senior highschool in 1975 I wanted to attend the academy of arts. Unfortunately I was rejected because I was just sixteen and still too young. I went to training college instead, but after working as a teacher for over 5 years in february 1986 I decided to take a training at the New York Institute of Photography. In may of that same year I started a job as a freelance photographer at a local photostudio.

Just for fun I used to take my camera to the hardrock and metal gigs I frequently attended. The photographs I took of the gigs, brought me an NYI Award of Merit in september 1987. Two months later one of these photographs was used for the frontcover of a recordsleeve: my first publication. Before I knew it I had a fulltime job as a freelance rockphotographer and saw my photographs being published worldwide in magazines and on record- and CD covers.

In 1993 I made a second attempt to attend the academy of arts. They all rejected me because my work already had too much quality and personal style and didn’t need the education they could provide. I too a training digital imaging, graphic illustration and desktop publishing at Image Factory in Amsterdam instead.

As a result of a hernia I was unable to work all through 1995 and not able to continue my profession as a photographer. In 2000/2001 I did a training for multimedia producer at SAE college in Rotterdam. During this training I found that my heart is still in photography and I haven’t been really happy since I had to give up on it. I took my camera from the attick and picked back up on photography.

My current passion is especially focussed on abstract photography (pseudonym: Arnuda) and mixing techniques and media to explore the possibilities to visualize non-tangible realities. This returns me to where I was in 1975 and what drove me to become an artist in the first place.
