Artist Reviews:
"There’s something about Shawn McNulty’s color fields that won’t let you relax completely. A bit of rough play with the palette knife, and an otherwise calm pool of paint becomes a choppy sea. By scraping, slicing and reapplying, McNulty avoids the zone-out of traditional abstract landscapes...

Artist Statement for Shawn Mc Nulty
Shawn McNulty (www.shawnmcnulty.com) is a Minneapolis artist exploring areas of Abstract Expressionism. His work is influenced by artists such as Hans Hoffman, Mark Rothko, Richard Diebenkorn, Rauschenberg, Frankenthaler, Warhol, and Jean-Michel Basquiat. "My style explores the relationship between man-made structures and the natural world; the idea of recognizable shapes and structures living within irrational thoughts and emotions. All my work is dependent on color and composition. I believe the most complex emotions can be evoked from the simplest of forms. As an artist attempts to interpret something more and more realistically, he or she is actually making their work less and less interesting, and asking much less of the viewer. The same painting can mean very different things to different people. Whatever you interpret my paintings to be is what they become."
All pieces come with a certificate of authenticity.
