Artist Statement:
“My paintings are portraits of a singular moment, captured immediately by camera and quick sketches then transformed by my memories, emotions and style. I hope to share that moment with the viewers, as well as to evoke memories of similar moments in their own lives, to provoke a pause, to cause the viewer to stop and consider how the commonplace and the everyday can be special.
For many years I found the most joy in watercolor. Like many other artists, I appreciate the immediacy and spontaneity of this medium. However, I am constantly experimenting with various mediums and many of my newer works on paper are being created using acrylics. This new direction has allowed me to explore my art language in a different medium while still retaining the transparency and luminosity of watercolor. I am also enjoying creating more and more pieces in oil.
John Singer Sargent, Degas, Joaquin Sorolla y Bastida, and several other American and world Impressionists are the painters who inspire me most of all, though I have an appreciation of many styles and eras of art.”
