Artist Statement:
Sophie Ploeg is a Dutch Artist, currently living and working in the United Kingdom. She specialises in portraiture and historic architecture. She has had various commissions from clients in The Netherlands and the United Kingdom.
She has studied Theatre Design at Art College in Utrecht and Art History at University where she gained an MA and is currently in the last stages of a Ph.D on architectural history.
She takes on commissions for portraits or buildings and enjoys the balance between the requirements of clients and the freedom of experimenting with the most persuasive combinations of colour, composition and texture. Her love for pastel started in her teens when she worked from a small beginner's box of Rembrandt pastels, which has since then expanded to an ever-growing amount of professional quality pastels. She loves to work with colour and tones as those are, for her, some of the strongest elements of atmosphere and expression. The demand for her work is growing and she is currently looking for the ideal venue to exhibit her work more regularly.
