Why Did You Become An Artist i dd not become an artist, i was BORN AN ARTIST>>>iT IS JUST TAKING YEARS TO PERFECT.

Your Personal Biography born in houston, texas on the first day of spring on the lunar calendar,4 february,1951.a love of animals drew me to become a zookeeper at the houston zoo. caing for the elephants was my speciality. my zoo duties spanned from designing and running the children's zoo, bottle feeding baby orphans such tigers, camels, mountain lions...to wrestling alligators! quite a job description, right? i had planned on becoming a zoo veterinarian, but was drawn to the arts instead. .then, my life took a drastic turn. they say that which doesn't kill you makes you stronger!after much healing and reflection-with no formal art schooling-i ran into my chinese mentors and teachers.some 13 years later, they are still guiding me along. from mtotoy childhood, dad had been an attorney for the chinese community in houston. my family and i were bestowed as honorary chinese, and given the name CHAN which i continue to use with honor and gratitude in all aspects of my life today. i am a continuing student in chinese philosophy, and both the written and spoken language which i feel greatly enriches my at with a feel for the country and people i paint and the carvings i create. in true ancient chinese tradition, i try to bring an attention to minute details and add much life and energy to my original, which include everything from chinese painting and calligraphy to carving the seals(or Chops) for personalized signatures on the artwork. in houston, i showed in both individual and group shows and as a member of the Chinese Art Association where i continue to show today-as one of the few, american members. my paintings and carvings are all over the world-i hope beloved and enjoyed by art collectors and friends alike. they even grace walls in chinese Temples, the home of roberto rossellini and a little chapel in a federal prison. the cost of feeding my beloved wildlife has inspired me to once again put my work in front of the collectors. chinese seals and wood reliefcarving are becoming a lost art after thousands of years;even traditional chinese painting/calligraphy is losing popularity to more modern ideals. my passion is to preserve these art forms and to share them with others. i strive to express the TAO thru my art and my main belief is'BO BO GO SING' which means 'STEP-BY-STEP' or 'KEEP ON TRUCK'IN'
