Artist Statement:
I am a digital artist, photographer, and painter. I began photography seriously in the late 1950's but turned to creating digital works beginning in the 1980’s, My involvement with digital imaging has expanded since then to include still images, digital video, 3D animation, and digital music.
During the last few years for still images I have collaged together flowers. Most of the floral objects I use in a still piece are initially scanned in on a large bed (11x17) flatbed scanner because I have found over the years that I can get finer detail by scanning as opposed to working from a camera image. I have also found that a scanned image has a special quality of lighting not achievable through other photo processes. For assembling an image I piece it together on the computer using Photoshop.
The geometrically shaped canvases seen here present an outline that is unique, one which goes beyond the more common and expected rectangular character of a picture. It draws emphasis to the work as an object itself. Finally floral objects push outside the geometric shape to attract even more attention. The result is a stronger three dimensional experience for the viewer.
