PHILOSOPHY
I have always been interested in how everything we do, and the journeys we take in life, gets a story. Sometimes a big one sometimes a small one. They are a kind of discovery journeys. And they are constantly ongoing. The journeys come in different shapes and forms, and it can be anything from the first steps of a child, a café visit, a nature experience or a journey to space. Everything has a story. Everything have made a journey. An earlier exhibition was of that reason named ”The Journey”.
My new work of paintings is called "Snapshot Stories". They are inspired by my trips to Arizona, USA and the world of islands in Greece and the city of London. What I discovered on my first trip to Arizona was how there were small and big stories surrounding us, both in the urban environments as well as in nature. Sometimes evident and up-front, sometimes hidden. My eyes become a sort of a camera that draw down on paper the memories and experiences from the journey´s. And told the history of a specific place, like a snapshot, with details of a much larger story.
MY NEW PAINTING
Today I do my paintings mostly with acrylics on canvas. The acrylic paint corresponds the best with my new image language, and it permits a more intuitive and more direct tone than the oil paint I used earlier. My image language is now something else. The earlier oil pant demanded a more restrained in the brush strokes and longer time to dry. But then, I wanted to tell the stories from another perspective. I have again starting to let the paint drip and flow freely over the canvas. And the quicker time it takes to dry make´s it easier for me to bring forward what is more me. And a nice bi-effect is that its more healthy in not using so much of turpentine, which I hope is more healthy and good for the environment.
