Artist Reviews:
"Stephen Warde Anderson has developed an unusual pointillist style of painting. And his women are fascinating --- part human and part goddess. He is best known in the Midwest, and even though he is still developing, his work has found its way into many folk art collections." Chuck and Jan Rosenak...

| Your Personal Biography |
Born in 1953 in Rockford, Illinois, I am a self-taught Midwestern outsider artist who paints in acrylic. I have been exhibiting nationally for almost twenty years and am affiliated with galleries and dealers in Chicago, Milwaukee, and Washington, D.C. I have had numerous and regular one-man exhibitions, and my work is in the collections of the Art Institute of Chicago, the Smithsonian Art Gallery, and the American Museum of Folk Art.
Although I produce a variety of work, one of my focuses is creating historical portraits. Using available images, I strive to create paintings that have are stylized and retain a certain naive quality suggestive of Midwestern 19th-Century folk portraiture, although my techniques are highly finished. |
