Artist Statement for Stephanie Fonteyn

Stephanie Fonteyn is a British painter who lives and works in Switzerland. She was brought up in an artistic environment surrounded by art, graphic design, music and dance. Stephanie is a self taught artist and started to paint as a hobby in 2002 in Spain.
Her first collection of abstract paintings was exhibited in 2005 when she was living and working in Switzerland. The abstracts are cross between Jackson Pollack‘s abstract expressionism and Piet Mondrian neoplasticism. It is a series of huge white canvases with bold black geometric lines, blocks of primary colour and splashes of paint.
In 2007 Stephanie rented her first art studio and began painting the portraits collection. The portraits explore the role of emotion in art. She is inspired by how the soul expresses itself during the creative process, and aims to send the observer along a journey of emotional exploration.

In 2010 Stephanie painted the collection "Couleurs Jazz" inspired by the Montreux Jazz festival near where she lives in Switzerland. The collection captures the magic and power of Jazz that transports both the musician and audience into the moment.

In 2011, Stephanie painted her Collection " L'époque" which travels into the 50s capturing the optimistic post war feeling in pop art style retro expressionist paintings of 50s cars and icons.
