Artist Statement for Rob Stern

Art has been a part of my life since I was a young boy. The beginning of my professional career focused on graphic and commercial art. In the last five years the focus has changed to fine arts and serigraphy.

I am a native Montanan and a graduate from the University of Montana where I studied Business Marketing and Fine Arts.

The pieces I have featured on this site are from a series of serigraphs called "Scenes from the Old West". Each edition is a hand pulled, seven color, mixed media serigraph. The paper is hand made from tree bark. The original line drawings, films, and stencils are all created entirely by hand. Each edition requires hundreds of hours to create. After initial printing each piece is then hand brushed. The edges are torn and candled. No two pieces are identical. The editions are extremely small. Some pieces are sold out but available through secondary markets.
