Artist Statement:
My schooling in art came from many trips to New Orleans.
I started collecting art from artists in the French Quarter. I met and spoke with as many of them as I could find. I was fortunate to be able to visit some of their studios and talk with them. I learned from what I heard and saw.
I am self-taught in the medium of cultivation, conveyance and expression. I have learned, on my own, to use the tools of my trade and how to create by creating.
Through a process of trial and error, I have developed what I believe is my own style of art. Most of my work starts with a basic sketch of an idea or thought and develops further as the adaptation of torch and formation of the beginning canvas takes place. The steel is cut, shaped and formed by hand to give me a canvas with depth, dimension and structure. Further dimension and texture is added with a multitude of color breathing life into every piece. The once cold hard steel transforms into warm colorful, sometimes whimsical works of art.
