Artist Statement:
My abstract paintings are expressions drawn from long periods of self-exploration.
The primary quest was to understand the nature of contradiction at every level of existence. Contradiction is as a mortar between the elements of creation. The moment of birth is hitched to eventual annihilation, and as day brings with it the night, every light bears within itself seeds of darkness. Change is the journey between the two poles of a contradiction, as life is between birth and death.
What of it? Is all existence only a journey between contradictions? I don’t know. For every point of integration between contradictions that is reached, there probably exists another counterpoint. However, no integration or resolution is ever final. For beyond one point of integration lie the next, and the next… In the words of TS Eliot:
“…the end of all our exploring will be
to arrive where we began,
to know the place for the first time…”
Explorations began with the expression of this quest. Elements in the works have a symbolic reference in the scheme of the exploration. Symbolism that is associated with the relevance of contradiction with existence itself.
