Artist Statement:
My background as an artist is
as a painter. For fifteen of
the last sixteen years, I’ve
painted - mostly figurative,
very minimalist - and very
controlled. I spent hours
refining my work and mulling
over my colour selections. In
early 2009, I chose a new
medium and technique (hand
pouring cement) that allows me
the opportunity to loosen up,
and is returning to me the
pleasure I felt as a child
when making something.
Working with cement, I am
reminded to live in the
moment. There is no going back
- what you lay down the first
time is what you get.
When people see my work, I’d
like them to see the beauty in
the fluidity of the surfaces.
Just like in life, there is
beauty in randomness . When I
add embellishments, I equate
it to our efforts to actively
making our lives better -
whether that’s sexier, more
exciting, more orderly,
whatever it may be. My work is
one more way to add a little
random beauty to our lives.

Welcome to Kayvene Mcjannett's Portfolio.
My background as an artist is as a painter. For fifteen of the last sixteen years, I’ve painted - mostly figurative, very minimalist - and very controlled. I spent hours refining my work and mulling over my colour selections.
