Artist Statement for Svetlana Vinokurtsev

I was born and grew up in a very materialistic family. My father abandoned the artist career in favor of material blessings and repose of usual life. In my family was forbidden even to think that children can engage in arts. That is why I studied in prestigious but far from art area of education. Over the years, I began to realize that it doesn’t matter what happens to me, good or bad, I always paint, I live and breathe by art. So, I embarked on the path of conscious art.
I wish to convey my thoughts in paintings and want it to be able to push each beholder to good things. In a world of so much evil perhaps my pictures as my thoughts may help to create a more progressive society, impact the positive side of the beholder. At least a little bit.
The peace process, freedom and equal rights of women for which our society still have so much to do, self-consciousness through creation, not through destruction – this is one of the most basic ideas disturbing my consciousness and conscience of my generation. In the same way victory over our complexes and new built discriminations. Our generation must confront against the faults and problems that have brought progress of society in technology and arming, and perhaps the way which could influence human social thought lays through art, cure from the technical cynicism and brutality.
That is why faces concern me, faces of people around us and even faces of children, or rather what’s hidden behind these faces. I am trying to express by painting the challenges every person faces, every man, his every choice and life experience.
May be my way is very complicated, but I am always grateful to the people who help me in my work. I bring up in paintings pain, confusion and moral dilemmas, brilliance of life and internal decay. Lying to yourself - as in the picture “Clearness of Judgments”. There are ideas only to convey through a clear image, the image that speaks to the unconscious viewer through one`s childhood associations. And I use associative thinking in my pictures, I try to talk with the unconscious person and touch his heart.
It seems to me that I set myself important purpose and I’ll continue this way.
