Artist Statement:
The set of photographs
included in this portfolio
summarises the direction of my
current work, which is based
loosely on the theme which I
term as 'Resonance'. As I
attempt to create photographs
that, visually and
emotionally, delve deeper than
the superficial image of the
picture, I am in effect
breaking the image down into
its elemental forms.
I am an idealist photographer.
Coming from the genre of the
photo-documentarist, my
transition into fine-art has
caused me to see and
appreciate my earlier
documentary images with
greater sensitivity.
Resonance is also a journey
into self-discovery. The
discovery of why a particular
style of photography attracts
me and why some do not. Why
certain images are stronger
i.e. emotionally and
aesthetically. and others
not.The question of content
over message of an image, that
is, whether a documentary
image can infact be a stand
alone fine art image has been
my aim to accomplish.
'Museo 50' is also a focal
point in my career, I believe,
having discovered the works of
Ralph Gibson, Bill Brandta nd
Albert Watson. I have come to
realise the involvment of a
deeper thought process within
photography.
