Artist Statement:
The Artist's style blends the
passionate color of the
impressionists with the detail
and precision of the realists.
“I prefer portraits and the
human figure,” she says,
though her paintings of other
subjects have also been
acclaimed. “My surreal work
comes from my imagination.” A
student of the Old Masters,
Sylvia uses her talents, her
life experiences, and travels
in Europe as parts of a whole;
the paintings speak for
themselves. Sylvia studied at
the Schuler School of Fine Art
and began exhibiting her work
in 1994. She makes her own
oils by grinding pigments with
a Black Oil and uses Maroger
Medium, recipes handed down
from generations of artists in
France. Classically trained,
she also works in charcoal and
in bronze. "Success for me
comes when the viewer of my
artwork experiences the same
emotion I felt during the
creative process." --Artist
