Artist Statement for Stephanie Salyer

Recovering from schizoaffective disorder, I've had to discontinue my attending conventional schooling, however this is not going to stop me from continuing my education. I am studying to get my GED and then move on to become an apprentice to a jewelry designer.
I'm truly fascinated with precious gems, and am in awe that something so beautiful as a ruby has such violent seismic beginnings. I also find that amethyst, quartz, and pearls are the perfect examples of who I am as a person--an ordinary rock or oyster on the outside, however on the inside, there are colorful surprises waiting to be discovered. I use elements from natural inspirations in my designs and artwork to express to the world new ways to experience life, as I feel that art is the only international language that most everyone can relate to in some way or another.
I feel that inside we all have a need to be heard and my artwork and jewelry are the results of my desire to express my views to anyone who views it so that I might possibly make the world a more colorful place to live.
