Artist Reviews:
James Taylor Studios
Here is something that catches your attention. . . 12/2/02 8:55 AM
Although not anything new, Taylor's images are an assault on your senses that draw you into the stark, raw, minimal imagery like a magnet draws metal filings. One can't help but stare...

Artist Statement for James Taylor
"I believe art is a subconscious expression of self. Art is the vehicle for bringing the subconscious to a conscious parallel. From the beginning of time, people have questioned the reason and purpose of their existence. The role of the artist is to explore this idealism, to permanently document the experience of our existence.
Following my instincts in search of that documentation of my own existence, my work celebrates the human form in a classic style. I enjoy using stoneware clay as my initial medium because it gives me the ease and freedom I need to create the final expression. I also enjoy the freedom of being self-taught in sculpture. As a clay artist for over 20 years, I purposely delayed my move from pottery to sculpture until I felt ready artistically. Over the last four years I have created an assorted amount of free standing and relief sculptures. Although my work is in it's infancy, you may be able to depict the general theme and passion of the human form in the work. I offer a documentation of my development in sculpture and a creative influence to the medium. My wish is to share this work, to let people experience and enjoy the beauty and delicacy of the human form in sculpture."
