Artist Statement for Alisa Teletovic

Melbourne based Bosnian artist Alisa Teletovic has been experiencing the outback and the land for the last year. An emotive and exciting journey has evolved and a series of mixed media art works in her figurative expressionist approach portray of her perception of Roxby Downs in South Australia. The most compelling aspect of her outback experience has been meeting and falling in love with the emu, a recurring character in these stunning visual narratives.

Experiences, memories and perceptions feature, surrounding the land and it's crucial role in belonging and the meaning of life (constant themes in her previous series) . To the artist, the emu represents grounding and the surprise of life itself.

After leaving behind the horrors of war in Europe, her artistic expression has since included many references to the simple yet profound joys of life and discovery.
Boyd,Tucker and Percival would have been proud to see an immigrant artist of the new millennium has had just as passionate a response to the Australian outback as the post-war expressionists of their era.
