| Your Personal Biography |
Since she was very young, Terrie’s life has revolved around the visual and performing arts. She and her husband met during a rehearsal of the Charlotte (North Carolina) Symphony Orchestra. After they were married, they spent the first 15 years of their life together in Texas where Chuck performed as a jazz musician in the Dallas and Houston areas. Terrie pursued her undergraduate and graduate painting studies at Sam Houston State University while her husband taught music theory and percussion as a member of the music faculty. In the Fall of 2006, Terrie's kiln-fired painting 'Reflections' was juried into the International Competition entitled 'Ignite' where she received a 3rd place award. One of her pieces also appeared in the publication 'Best of Florida Artists' where she was awarded 2nd place in Art Glass. She received a 2004-2005 Enhancement Grant from the Florida Department of State and the South Florida Cultural Consortium. In 2007, she was one of 48 Florida artists awarded a grant to attend an Artists' Retreat sponsored by Creative Collateral, a non-profit arts organization in New York City, the Florida Division of Cultural Affairs and the National Endowment for the Arts. She was one of 24 artists who attended the retreat in Seaside, FL.
Terrie is the Artists Representative on the Board at the LeMoyne Center for the Visual Arts.

"As a child, do you remember the joy of opening a new box of Crayolas? I certainly do. I loved their fragrance and the way the beautiful colors vibrated, line up row by row. I could hardly wait to use 'Magenta' or Periwinkle Blue. Perhaps those early memories influenced my decision to study art.
Glass is my canvas. I apply high fire enamels to create non-objective or abstracted opaque paintings. I fire the work multiple times in a kiln before it is completed.
I am a studio artist living in Tallahassee, FL. I exhibited my paintings and drawings for many years. In a radical departure, I decided to study glass fusing. I initially worked in traditional kiln-forming glass techniques. However, I missed painting and the expressive experience it provided. In 2003, I discovered high fire (paint-like) glass enamels and began painting again. I enjoy the physical act of painting and the capricious nature of kiln-fired glass is intriguing.
I begin a painting by applying the paint, or enamel, using a variety of painting implements. Sometimes I inscribe thoughts and ideas in the paint, knowing that when the work is fired, the enamels will flow and obscure the intimate nature of those words. The emaining ‘glyphs’ contribute to the painting's design and texture.By combining personal imagery and mark-making with a variety of surface applications, including sgraffito, sandblast etching and burnishing, I am able to achieve the expressive experience I want.
To create an effective painting while firing a successful piece of glass is both the challenge and the reward!
This year, I exhibited my paintings in 12 different juried or invitational exhibitions including two one-woman shows. I have gallery representation and participate in juried events in regional museums, galleries and art centers, as well as exhibitions in other cities, states, and art spaces."
