Artist Statement:
Interestingly, I have had one particular reading of
the work that conveyed that
the Darkworld Project is not challenging the media
spectacle per se but it is a direct and
systematic symptom of it. It is the afterglow of the
world we have created. This is my
'Darkworld' a world that has formed as a result of a
surveillance society where identity
is constructed by the mass media, deranged by a
technological frenzy of indifference.
With this in mind these human figures that haunt the
vestiges of my disparate urban
landscapes wander aimlessly in a world of no meaning;
in and out of the structures
that we have built, that WE are responsible for.
?
My aim is to turn around a rather stale and looped art
scene ever caught in the web of
appropriation and repetition. This "scene" is totally
market driven with the pondering
blue chip art galleries pushing the latest in hype,
investing heavily in new upcoming young
artists. I am sorry but this is not good enough. The
art that they so frequently praise will
not stand up in two or three hundred years time.
Having said that it is only for the select
few but not ...
