Artist Statement:
Who can say when a photograph stops being a “snapshot” and becomes an artistic
expression? When I create an image, I go beyond simple documentation. I spend time
gaining an understanding of the subject and its place in this world. I work very hard to
capture the inner “sense” of what I see and what I feel as I stand in front of the subject to
make the image.
How do I respond to it emotionally?
How does the subject fit within its environment?
What does the subject convey to me?
I strive to answer these questions when I make the final image. The ultimate goal for my
images is to have the viewer experience what I experienced when I created the image.
