Artist Statement for Joshua Chambers
|
|
|
Art is all about finding the beauty in “existence”. Some try hard to envision a creation, and others see potential in what already exists. This view is held by Joshua Chambers, a fashion designer and abstract expressionist painter who resides in Atlanta. Not too long ago, Joshua graduated from Bauder College where he majored in Fashion Design. While sketching, designing and creating clothing, he realized that it was all an expression of art. This grew into a desire to explore various forms of art. He hadn’t planned on the turn in this direction, but he’s willing to follow his heart to see what becomes of it.
He often creates spontaneously, based on what he’s feeling at the moment, thus eliminating the pressure to meet a particular standard. His unique style of creating often involves materials such as wood, tile, stains and even polyurethane. Inspired by the Art Deco Period (1900's)and images of the greek god Janus, he uses carpentry skills to transfer his soul into a rectangular box known as "The Janus Sarcophagus". These boxes are able to stand on their own at 48 to 72 inches in height and 7 inches wide. Upon request, storage for vintage wine and jewelery can be incorporated into the design. Not only do clients recieve a great piece of art, they are also given the opportunity to glimpse into the heart and mind of a man who comes from a more modern time (referring to the Art Deco Period). This mixed media artist loves to express himself through art. He states, its a great release that has brought joy to many and inspired others to try their hand at it. Art is life, and it's all around us.
