Artist Statement:
Our collaborative ceramic art for the wall uses the composition of the outside edges, interior forms, and saturated colors to juxtapose a sense of serenity and dynamic energy.
We use the complex medium of clay because it offers sculptural options, as well as painterly surfaces. The clay invites a broad palette of colors and textures as well as additional possibilities for adding other materials such as metal and wood.
We fire our wall sculptures in a range from cone 04 to cone 2 and use underglazes and slips. Our sculpted clay wall paintings range in size from several inches to many feet.
In contrast, our ceramic "vessels" most often are intended to invoke themes of myth and legend. Some have a strong sense of architecture. We endeavor to imbue each vessel with an "inner life" that pulses and swells. We strive to make them seem alive -- as though they might get up and walk. These highly sculpted and textured forms are usually treated with subtle underglaze colors in layered applications. Our colors lend contrast to the forms and are meant to give a certain ageless and peaceful effect....
