Artist Statement:
Exhibition and screening of “1+2, a crappy film in too many acts”, a film-performance and its subsequent photographs created in London by Tintin Cooper will be shown at Siam Art Space, Bangkok this November.
1+2 comprises a series of narrative photographs, film and performance telling the story of the constant feud (and need for equilibrium) between husband-wife, masculine-feminine and yin-yang. An unrefined Middle Eastern macho-man and a highly volatile American blond bimbo find new and inventive ways to assault each other in this slapstick black comedy (eg. hitting one over the head with a bottle, spitting an apple on the other's face or jabbing a fork in the other's eye). Though 1+2 takes the style of silent, black and white films, it references many universal and contemporary themes such as domestic violence, love and hate and more recently the uncompromising struggle between Western and Arab cultures. 1+2 views the world as a perilous and aggressive place, which it audaciously challenges with humour.
Tintin Cooper, an English-Thai artist, has exhibited a mixture of work including installations, life-size drawings, photos, spatial constructions, animation and film, throughout London, Manchester, Glasgow...
