Browse Blackwood's body of work: These pieces were done using multiple printings of standard, scanned black and white photographs and digital color photographs on Arches 90 lb. watercolor paper. Further media used includes watercolor, chalk pastel, charcoal, colored pencil, collaged paper, and water-based polymer medium.
They began as an extension of some compelling photographs from itinerant photographer’s work in Southeastern Alabama from the 1930’s. I felt drawn to the stark expression that was conveyed by many of the subjects, unencumbered by context or preparation.
